How do I BECOME A New jersey home inspector?

Home Inspector regulations are guided by the New Jersey Home Inspector Advisory Committee. Laws and Regulations require New Jersey students to complete 140 hours of classroom training plus 40 hours of onsite mentoring with a licensed New Jersey Home Inspector.  More information is available through the following link to the NJ Home Inspector Advisory Committee.

Do I need a background in a trade to become a home inspector?

No, a background in a trade is not required to take the course. Only a high school diploma and a valid drivers license is required. The course is developed into 10 modules, each focusing on a different area of inspection. Each week the  instructor provides an in-depth review of the approved materials with samples and workshops.

Where is the school located?

The school is located off of Rt 73 at 3000 Atrium Way in Mt. Laurel, NJ 08054. The Atrium Building is approximately one mile from the Rt.-73-(Exit 4) Turnpike and Rt.73-(Exit 36A) I-295 Interchange.

Do you offer Zoom classes?

Classes are developed specifically for in-person home inspection training. Learning onsite in a classroom environment allows students to view various workshops, samples and onsite applications. 


The school provides the most up-to-date resources for an adult learner. The school provides a convenient space for students to participate in classes and workshops. A  spacious classroom with large windows provides a comfortable and non-stress atmosphere to learn, ask questions and work as a team with other students. In addition, a spacious study/ break room is available for students to read, practice home inspection quizzes and participate in workshops. 

do you offer mentoring?

YES! Mentoring is included with tuition and provided through the school.  Students may view The Home Inspection School of NJ mentoring calendar and sign up with a licensed NJ home inspector to complete the state required 40 hours of onsite field mentoring. 

Do you offer financing?

YES, we provide several options for financing.  We offer students interest free financing through our 2+2+2 Installment Program. This allows students to conveniently make payments  throughout the semester.   Registation, books, mentoring, practice exams, access to NJ NACHI and several other resources are included as part of the program.


We also accept scholarships such as the JD Grewell Education Scholarship.

is there a fee to register at the school?

NO! There are no registration fee's to sign up at the school. Enrollment is easy and convenient for students to get started. Students can contact the school at 856-882-9611 to review the program and complete the easy enrollment process. 

Are books included in tuition?

YES! Books are included.  The following home inspection training materials are included with the program: 

Dearborn

  • Principles of Home Inspection, Systems and Standards, 3rd Edition

Examination Board of Professional Home Inspectors (EBPHI)

  • The Mechanical Systems and NHIE Content Manual 
  • The Structural Systems and Business Manual 

How often are classes available?

The classes are set up with semesters similar to a college or university. This system not only provides a structured format for learning, but it also allows students to work as a team and supporting network throughout the program. 

If I get licensed in New Jersey, Can I work in other states as a home inspector?

Each state has an individual list of requirements and regulations for home inspections in their state. EBPHI, The Examination Board of Professional Home Inspectors, provides a review of home inspection guidelines nationwide.  INTERNACHI also provides a summary of nationwide guidelines per state.
