The first course introduces students to the field of home inspection. This provides an indepth review of the standards of practice required for home inspection . It also provides an indepth review to report writing, developing narratives and effective client and realtor communications. Communication must be effective and efficient with both written and verbal skills. Professional communications are imperative for a successful Home Inspector.
This course provides an in-depth review of the standards of practice for exterior inspections including inspection of exterior wall surfaces and materials, flashing and trim, windows, doors, walkways, driveways, patios, vegetation, grading and potential sources for water intrusion. The course also reviews the inspection of eves, soffits and fascia’s, siding, gutters and garages. Students will learn to write proper narratives and report writing for these conditions as well as emphasis on safety measures for exterior inspections.
This course provides an in-depth review of the standards of practice for roofing inspections including roofing materials and styles, roof coverings, downspouts, drainage, flashing, skylights, chimney and roof penetrations. The course also reviews common issues such as roof leaks, damage and deterioration. Students will learn to write proper narratives and report writing for these conditions as well as emphasis on safety measures and methods for roofing inspections.
This course provides an in-depth review of the standards of practice for structural inspections including attics, crawlspaces, basements, walls, bowing, cracking, columns, piers, floors and support beams This also includes the structure of the roof, fire walls, rafters, joists and ceiling joists. Foundation inspections as well as floor, ceiling and roof structure inspections are also included. Students will learn to write proper narratives and report writing for these conditions as well as emphasis on safety measures for structural inspections.
This course provides an in-depth review of the standards of practice for insulation and ventilation inspections including unfinished spaces, ventilation of attics and foundation areas as well as review of mechanical ventilation systems. Students will learn to write proper narratives and report writing for these conditions as well as emphasis on safety measures for insulation and ventilation l inspections.
This course provides an in-depth review of the standards of practice for interior inspections including floors, walls, ceilings, kitchen cabinets, kitchen appliances (ovens, microwaves, dishwasher, etc) counters, stairs, railings, windows, basements, crawlspaces and garages. Students will learn proper narratives and report writing for interior inspections as well as emphasis of safety measures for interior inspections.
This course provides an in-depth review of the standards of practice for electrical inspections including service panels, sub panels, conductors, lighting, fixtures, switches and receptacles. This also includes a review of knob and tube wiring, electrical cables, grounding (GFCI), smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors. Students will learn proper narratives and report writing for electrical inspections as well as emphasis of safety measures for electrical inspections.
This course provides an in-depth review of the standards of practice for heating inspections including instruction for base board heat, vent systems, flues, chimneys. It also identifies how to identify and report leaks, thermostats, carbon monoxide detectors, distribution systems including air filters, registers and fan coil units. The course also highlights reporting the location, age of the heating unit, serial number and model number of units.
This course provides an in-depth review of the standards of practice for air conditioning inspections including cooling systems, compressors, condenser coils, thermostat as well as methods to properly identify the serial number and model number of the unit. Students will learn proper narratives and report writing for air conditioning inspections as well as emphasis of safety measures for air conditioning inspections.
This course provides an in-depth review of the standards of practice for plumbing inspections including water supply and distribution of water systems including fixtures, faucets, drain, waste and vent systems. Water heaters, sump pumps, sewage ejectors, fuel distribution systems and related plumbing will be reviewed. Students will learn proper narratives and report writing for plumbing inspections as well as emphasis of safety measures for plumbing inspections.
Report writing is reviewed in each module throughout the program. Review provides examples of how to develop a home inspection report, how to write narratives, how to edit, upload and send reports to clients.
The state of New Jersey requires 40 Hours of field mentoring training. Students can sign up with a mentor through the Home Inspection School of New Jersey.
